Primary-source evidence
- SK said in November 2022 that Absolics, a subsidiary of SKC, broke ground on a planned $600 million Covington, Georgia facility to make glass substrates for semiconductor packaging.
- SK described the product as a thin glass layer on which processing and memory chips can be mounted together, replacing a silicon interposer plus plastic substrate in its framing.
- SK stated phase-one expected annual capacity of 12,000 square meters and phase-two capacity of 72,000 square meters; those were 2022 expectations and need current verification.
- The U.S. Department of Commerce announced in May 2024 a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms for up to $75 million of CHIPS direct funding, supporting a 120,000-square-foot facility in Covington and substrate technology for advanced packaging.
- Absolics' product page claims 40% SI improvement and 50% PI improvement. Treat those as vendor claims until independently validated.
Investment role
